About the job

At Chatterbug, our product/design and engineering teams work closely with our marketing and language experience (LX) experts all the way from concept to final implementation. We use an iterative process, release often, and stay open to feedback.

We're now looking for an experienced product manager to join our team and help guide product initiatives through the entire development process and into the hands of our customers.

  • Connect and collaborate with the Engineering, Support, Design and Executive teams, balancing a mix of technical, design and business concerns
  • Apply your technical knowledge to structure feature implementation and define clear and well-structured processes and help drive our cycle (sprint) process
  • Help develop, prioritize and balance product roadmap, technical roadmap, support tickets and unplanned work
  • Collect feature requirements from stakeholders and translate into feature scope for the Engineering team
  • Keep our customers' needs at the center of all and analyze our customer data to drive new product development
  • Provide structure for feature scoping and estimation and be able to define what "success" looks like for our existing features and future projects

About you

You’re a multi-talented product manager who wants to join our team building our language-learning product and community. You will be part of a small design and development team and have the opportunity to guide major initiatives on our systems, researching, managing, and shipping new features for our students and tutors.

  • You have experience working on digital products and you can see the problem through the eyes of a user
  • You're great at anticipating and resolving blockers and refining scope to ensure projects can be completed in a timely way and with as little friction as possible
  • You can communicate ideas clearly to provide company-wide visibility for finished work
  • You know how to use data to back decisions and design recommendations
  • You value attention to detail but don't lose sight of the big picture
  • You understand the importance of clear and concise communication and providing context for the work being done
  • You are hands-on and like to get things done. You work autonomously and you are proactive
  • You're an active learner whose passions may include learning languages. (If you know a language other than English please tell us!)

About us

Although we are a small team, we have a big product. We are an experienced team with backgrounds at GitHub and other major tech companies with funding from top investors in Silicon Valley and Europe. Our team works extremely reasonable hours and we have a strong commitment to work-life balance.

We currently teach German, English, Spanish, and French using our cutting-edge learning platform, and we're constantly looking for ways to help learners at every stage of their journey: that's why we're exploring new ground, like virtual reality and live streaming. But beyond language learning, we’re on a bigger mission to help make lots of jobs for people who only need one skill: how to speak their native language. We have an international team and an international product, and we’re proud of it.

Curious about how the company operates? Here’s a quick overview:

  • Berlin and beyond. Our largest office is in Berlin with around 42 people, but our team is encouraged to travel and work from home when needed. Because of the vast time zone spread, we focus on asynchronous communication when possible, via Slack and Notion.

  • Work/life balance matters. We work a full day then go home, and please set up your Do Not Disturb. That Slack message can wait, can’t it? We think so too.

  • Face time brings us together. Since we’re split up over the world, we put a lot of value on our fortnightly in-video “Chattermeet” all-hands meetings. We share what’s happening in the company, our product, our curriculum, and occasionally some tidbits about our lives too.

  • We value diversity. Chatterbug is an inclusive company - we embrace difference and strive for equality. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, identities and perspectives. We particularly encourage parents, women, people of colour and LGBTQIA+ to apply. We’re striving to create a safe environment that’s inclusive to everyone.

  • Learning first. We have monthly breakfast meetings at our Berlin office to teach about our systems and we encourage our employees to network and be continual learners at professional events.

  • Pitch us. Ideas for our company and our product can come from all levels or layers of the organisation—you just need to write it up or propose it!

Benefits at Chatterbug

  • Regular fun events, team dinners and an annual company summit abroad (quarantine permitting)
